Rivarnia

About Us

Hello and Hola, we are Gui (as in guitar) and Mark (as in Mark),

We are travellers who met serendipitously on the south coast of New South Wales. Purchasing Rivarnia cottage was a sharp contrast to our nomadic lifestyle of the past few years. Now, we are on the welcoming side, having a space to invite travellers during their discovery of the amazing Kangaroo Island.

Gui: I am from Spain, with strong links to Argentina. Travelling has always been part of my life, and now that I have settled down (for now at least) on Kangaroo Island, you can bring the travelling experience to me. I am grateful to my parents who opened the world, showing me different ways to move around the globe. I have gone through countries walking, by bicycle, by car, van, train.. Every trip had its special moments and the people I met made them unforgettable. I aspire to keep on learning, discovering and talking to people from all kinds of backgrounds. When not travelling I tend to keep myself well occupied; I am currently studying a masters degree, learning how to be a mum; I love hiking, reading and painting. If English isn't your forte, I speak Spanish, French and Portuñol (if you aren't sure what that is, it's a mix of Spanish and Portugese).

Mark: I am originally from Kangaroo Island, growing up and completing my schooling on the island. The majority of my family resides on the island not too far from the cottage with their life centralised around agriculture. I have spent the majority of the past 10 years off island, travelling and working my way around Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Central and South America. Gui and I have spent the majority of the past 5 years on the beautiful south coast of NSW where I have been working as a poorly paid surfer with a side income via property valuations. I am excited for our new chapter living on our island home where I plan to carry on my surfing career, build up a gourmet and medicinal mushroom growing business, be a new dad, complete a property valuation or two and hopefully host you in our incredible cottage which we know you’ll love.

We moved back to Kangaroo Island in May 2021 and welcomed a son soon after. We hope you enjoy your stay, feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions about the cottage.
